CHSC staff often serve as faculty in established training programs and residencies raising up the next generation of health professionals. Others train national staff in less formal environments. Building local capacity is central to the identity of the Christian Health Service Corps. Therefore we actively seek out places where we can have a lasting impact by discipling, and training local Christian physicians and health professionals to serve in their own communities. Nyankunde is one of those places, CHSC missionary physicians Dr. Warren and Dr. Lindsey Cooper serve at this facility alongside Congolese colleagues training staff and building capacity in this rural facility.
Language: French is the official language and is spoken by all those who have been educated. Swahili is the trade language of the area and is spoken by everyone. The Congolese physicians and the OR staff understand some English but language training is an essential prerequisite for long-term staff. Short-term volunteers are reviewed and accepted on a case by case basis depending on needed and specialty.
