What We Do

Surgical Care

We provide safe surgery where it's needed most.

Five billion people in the world lack access to safe surgery and two billion lack access to even the most basic surgical care, resulting in the deaths of 1.2 million people each year.

Christian Health Service Corps is expanding access to surgery across the world. We provide lifesaving emergency and corrective surgeries for many conditions children and adults suffer in poor communities.

We also train local surgeons to ensure more people have access to quality care for generations to come.

CHSC surgeons provide:

General and Orthopedic Surgery

General and Orthopedic Surgery

CHSC general surgeons care for a wide range of surgical patients that would otherwise have no access to a surgeon. This includes trauma patients, orthopedic patients, neurosurgery and much more.

Emergency Surgery for Women

Emergency Surgery for Women

Each day more than 800 women die from complications of childbirth, mostly because they lack access to emergency obstetrical care such as C-Sections and transfusion services.

CHSC obstetricians, surgeons and family physicians frequently provide life-saving C-Sections and emergency care for women around the world.

Restorative Women’s Surgery

Restorative Women’s Surgery

Millions of women in developing countries live daily with the humiliation and dejection of obstetric fistula, a devastating complication of childbirth. Specially trained CHSC surgeons bring hope back to the women who have been scarred and castaway due to obstetric fistulas.

Specialized Pediatric Surgery

Specialized Pediatric Surgery

In many countries where we work, the ratio of patients per surgeon is at crisis levels, with only one trained general surgeon millions of people. The same goes for access to board-certified pediatric surgeons. CHSC general surgeons provide pediatric surgical care out of necessity. However, CHSC board-certified pediatric general surgeons are able to provide a much wider range of child surgeries.

Pediatric Plastic Reconstructive Surgery

Pediatric Plastic Reconstructive Surgery

Every year, about 7.9 million infants (6% of worldwide births) are born with serious birth defects. Many of these defects can be surgically corrected, but lacking access to surgeons across the world leaves millions of children without help for their conditions.

CHSC’s team of pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgeons bring these surgeries to areas where reconstructive surgery is not available. We also develop surgical skills of local physicians to educate and mentor them in procedures such as cleft surgery.

We Train Surgeons

Simply providing surgery will not meet the vast need of surgical care in poor regions of the world. Because of this, CHSC trains surgeons to greatly expand access to safe surgery.

CHSC surgeons serve as faculty in established training programs and residencies. Our surgeons not working in residency training programs still mentor local physicians to build their competency in basic surgeries. The end goal remains the same, raising up the next generation of surgeons in their own countries.

Reserve Corps Application

Our Reserve Corps program allows healthcare professionals seeking to volunteer short-term to do so in a way that supports long-term Christian medical missions work. CHSC places healthcare professionals in a growing list of Christian hospitals across Africa, Asia, Latin America and other regions. Christian Health Service Corps works to improve access to primary healthcare, surgical services, and community-based disease prevention services. Non-Christian volunteers are accepted on a case by case basis but solely at the discretion of the hospital and CHSC team the volunteer will be supporting.
