What We Do

Medical Care for Mothers and Children

Maternal & Children’s Healthcare

Imagine your child or family member is critically ill or injured, but you live in a place that has no access to healthcare – no doctors, no nurses, no hospital, and nowhere to turn for help.
This is the reality for millions of mothers and children around the world.

Christian Health Service Corps provides lifesaving medical care for young mothers and their children in places where there is little or no access to care. In many of the places where we work, 1 out of 4 children will not live to see their fifth birthday.

The services we provide in communities, clinics and hospitals can be the difference between life or death for thousands of mothers and children each day.

CHSC Provides:

Newborn Intensive Care

Newborn Intensive Care

Children born prematurely, or that develop infections in the first weeks of life have little chance of survival. Most die within the first month of life. CHSC provides skilled newborn care that saves the lives of many of these children. CHSC’s quality improvement physicians travel to different locations to assist hospitals in improving their newborn care through our process improvement and medical training saving countless more lives each year.

Care for Children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM)

Care for Children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM)

More than half the nearly 6 million children that die under 5 years of age each year globally are malnourished. Malnourished children often have severe anemia, and their immune systems are unable to protect them from severe diseases. CHSC provides care for severely malnourished children. Our inpatient malnutrition referral programs receive hundreds of patients from all over their areas each year. These Children often present so severely malnourished they are unable to stand walk or eat. However, most of the critically ill children we care for in the hospital have malnutrition as a contributing cause to the severity of their illness.

Care for Children with Rheumatic Heart Disease

Care for Children with Rheumatic Heart Disease

Because children in poor countries often lack access to care strep throat infections go untreated. The result is an evolving chronic infection that causes heart disease that claims the lives of teens and young adults. Using local screeners trained to use ultrasound, we identify heart disease in school age children. We then provide the needed treatment usually a monthly antibiotic injection. On occasion heart valve disease is advanced and the child requires surgery. We then work to facilitate transfer of the child to location capable of performing such surgery often in another country.

Care for Pregnant Mothers

Pregnant Mothers

Each day more than 800 young women lose their lives due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Christian Health Service Corps works in countries with the highest maternal rates of death from and child death rates in the world. We work in these places because it is where we can make the biggest impact. We provide care to pregnant mothers in rural villages, clinics, and hospitals to make functional healthcare available and make childbirth safer. CHSC OB/GYN’s midwives, OB trained Family doctors and nurses work daily in the fight against death from the complications of pregnancy and childbirth. CHSC OB/GYN’s, family doctors and surgeons provide emergency obstetric care including C-Sections. We also train local physicians in obstetrical care and C-Sections.
