Matthew and Mary met on the mission field in Impfondo, Republic of Congo. Mary was working as a nurse in the salle d’urgence (emergency department) at Pioneer Christian Hospital; Matthew had come on a short-term trip to repair machinery and equipment. They share a love for Christ and a passion for reaching the people of Congo through compassionate care and discipleship.
Matthew and Mary joined the team at Vanga Evangelical Hospital in June, 2023. Mary will be working alongside her Congolese and missionary colleagues to establish Vanga’s soon-to-be-constructed intensive care unit. This will involve new equipment, new treatment protocols, and new skills to provide a higher level of care than previously possible in the region. Since Vanga is a teaching hospital, with both student nurses and doctors, we pray that the example of intensive care in such a difficult context will instill a passion for excellence in health care that will reach beyond Vanga hospital. Matthew will be serving with the maintenance and construction teams to help keep the hospital services running, and missionary houses maintained.
Through medical evangelism and building relationships with people in the community, they will share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the peoples of Vanga and surrounding regions.
