A nurse practitioner certified in both family and acute care, Joy is preparing to move to Soddo, Ethiopia. She will be working at Soddo Christian Hospital where the mission is to provide excellent medical care, make disciples of Jesus Christ, and empower African healthcare professionals.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Joy was working in orthopedic surgery near New York City. Her hospital’s staff needed help in the ICU, so she gladly volunteered. She found it a privilege to care for the critically ill and subsequently completed a critical care fellowship.
After she visited Soddo in April 2023, the missionary staff asked Joy to prayerfully consider returning full time to work in the ICU with particular focus on education of the local nurses.
She is excited to invest in the nurses and encourage them to care for each patient as a fellow image bearer of God.
