Renée grew up in the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York. She felt called to serve Jesus as teenager in summer camp before attending Cornell University where it became more clear that serving Jesus would be in medical missions. She went to Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey and did a combined residency in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics there. During her training she did short term missions in Romania, the Philippines and Kenya.
Since 2007, Renée has been serving at Bongolo Hospital in Gabon in many capacities including HIV care, TB and malaria. She has been the Medical Director since 2016. Bongolo has multiple levels of formation for Christian African medical professionals, and Renée particularly enjoys teaching medical students, primary care interns and nurse practitioners. It’s especially fulfilling both to see the trainees learn to provide excellent care, and also be able to lead others to Jesus. Renée also teaches Sunday School at the Bongolo Church.
