The Schmidt’s are currently located in the Peruvian Andes serving the quechua population of this region. Oliver and Anna and their four children (Melissa, Noah, Emily and Serena) moved from Paraguay to Peru to serve the Lord at the Diospi Suyana Mission Hospital, located in Curahuasi, Peru. Oliver, is a Family Doc at the Hospital. Anna, is an (M.E.M) Environmental Engineer and works at the environmental health department of the Mission Hospital as well.
Oliver is a third-generation missionary doctor. His grandparents (John and Clara) were sent to Paraguay by the USA Mennonite community. Their lives of service were of inspiration for Oliver to pursue medicine as a tool to share the gospel of Christ while serving the most vulnerable. Anna’s life was also impacted by the lives of her family. Her great-grandparents where missionaries and church planters in rural Paraguay, and later on her grandparents and parents followed in pastoral ministry. Anna believes that most of her growth in ministry comes from serving alongside with her parents in a small church in rural Paraguay, and later on through Christian campus ministries both in Paraguay an in the US.
After finishing his training, Oliver participated in many volunteer jobs in the medical field, and ended up getting his first job as a missionary doctor at the “Yalve Sanga Mission Hospital”, serving natives indigenous of the Paraguayan Chaco. During this time Oliver met Anna and they got married in 2015. During their dating time both talked about missions and the idea of serving the Lord with their professions. Right after their wedding, they moved to the US for Anna’s Master’s program in Environmental Management, and returned to Paraguay afterwards to work at the same Mission Hospital for natives. They served there in the medical and educational area for 6 years while raising their first 3 kids. In mid- 2021, God led them to connect with Diospi Suyana Hospital in Peru, and a a few months later they were moving to the Peruvian Andes with their 3 kids and a pregnancy on the way. Since then, the Schmidt Family have been serving through the Diospi Suyana Mission Association through a variety of ministries, and also serving at a local church in Curahuasi.
