Today is the Day!

Today is the Day!

A lot has changed since I last sent a newsletter! I wanted to keep you all up to date on the happenings as my faithful supporters and prayer warriors, but ultimately all is still the same and I am (finally!) going to Mexico!! PTL!

I successfully finished packing, giving away/trashing, and organizing the things I am leaving behind, much to my parents’ delight! See below for a before picture of their basement! (Yes, I still had kindergarten crafts. But rest assured, they have been recycled now, 25 years later. )

I shipped my luggage to Texas where a missionary family was visiting for a family wedding. They had graciously offered to drive ALL my luggage across the border and up to the hospital – a huge blessing to me financially and not an easy task for them! Thank you, Madalinskis!!

My luggage arrived safely on Sunday (11/28) and now I am on my way to Mexico! Please pray for smooth travels tonight. And don’t worry if you don’t see this until it’s too late. God is sovereign over time, so I appreciate any and all prayers!

Now, for what ‘has changed.’ My departure date was delayed a few weeks due to some medical issues I was having. All is well though, and I am safe to go, but I would appreciate prayers for continued health (and the Lord’s favor on my medical bills ). In all reality, I am very grateful for the time I had at my parents’ house, the days I was able to babysit my niece and nephew as my sisters’ worked, and the ability to spend Thanksgiving with family and attend my grandma’s 80th surprise birthday party! (HBD, Grandma! )

These are memories I will cherish as I say goodbye to my time here. Even though I am excited to go to Mexico, ready to start working as a midwife again, and even feel confirmation from the Lord in this calling, goodbyes are hard. I’ve always been privileged to live close enough to family that I could easily drive back for a weekend. Now I will miss months and years of my little niece and nephew’s lives. I will be far away from the family and friends I love. I know this is some of your realities as well, so I applaud your sacrifice. I hope that even though I have moved away, you all know how much you mean to me and how thankful I am that you have been (and will continue to be) part of my life.

My last update is that I will actually be coming home for one week at Christmas. That was definitely not part of my ideal plan of acculturation and language learning, but all the missionaries on the compound will be leaving so they felt it best/safest if I was not there alone, especially being so new. And I can’t complain about spending Christmas with family. As plans change and life happens, we have to learn to adapt and trust in God. I know I will face more of these detours on the mission field. Yet I am choosing to believe that God can work through any barriers to achieve His will for my life. Please continue to pray for my language learning process and my adjustment to life in Mexico. I am very happy to report that I have confirmed two people to be language partners!

As always, if you have any prayer requests, don’t hesitate to respond to these emails. I would love to know how to pray for you. For now, I hope you all had happy Thanksgivings and are taking time to reflect on this Advent season commemorating the anticipation and waiting period many endured for the birth of our Savior and Messiah!

And now…

I’m “Good to Go to Mexico!”

Just without the moonlight dancing on the sea…

¡Hasta la próxima!
