Ravaged by tornadoes early Tuesday morning, our property in Cookeville was untouched. Thankful for that grace, we grieve and participate with friends who suffer loss. We get to make a difference where we are as we minister to, and with, those we visit.
Living in two cultures does not come naturally. It demands reappraisal and adjustment. Also, spiritual warfare and events on the mission field take physical, spiritual, and emotional tolls. This makes retreating doubly vital to have time to process it all.
Two small girls saw Verlin with his full beard and red sweater and said to their mom with expectancy, “Santa Clause!” Their expression of wonder and excitement reminds us to be awed with expectant hope. Remembering the intense fervor and longing of others, we too await the advent of the true, great presence who inspires awe and praise.
It amuses and instructs us when medical science “catches up” with the everlasting truths that our Lord already revealed through His Word. In recent years, much has been written about neuroplasticity in the brain. Gratitude and positive thinking grow neuron networks in the left prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that helps us seek solutions to problems. As we travel along seeding the hope that comes with the Gospel through Community Health Evangelism, we are learning the power of thanksgiving. Learn it with us to hold onto what is good, grow some neurons, and solve some problems. We bid all who read a daily, Happy Thanksgiving!
