Christian Health Service Corps is a community of Christian doctors, health professionals and health educators serving the poor in places that have little or no access to healthcare. Every day we bring compassionate, life-saving health services to families around the world.  CHSC physicians and health professionals are often the only access to care for young families in poor communities.

Ethan and Elizabeth Helm

CambodiaFamily Practice & Pediatrician - Hebron Hospital

Ethan and Elizabeth are medical missionaries passionate about bringing spiritual and physical healing to the developing world. After serving two years at Mbingo Baptist Hospital (Cameroon) with World Medical Mission, they moved to Cambodia in December 2018.

Ethan completed undergraduate studies outside of Chicago and returned to Arkansas for medical school. God saved Ethan as a child, grew his faith through Stage IV cancer as a teenager, and called him to missions through a Kenyan mentor. Ethan now works as a pediatrician at Hebron Hospital and teaches nursing students through the University of Health Sciences, where he remains focused on preaching the Good News through medicine.

Elizabeth grew up in Buffalo, where she attended university and medical school. She spends her days teaching at home, studying Khmer, writing, and keeping her CME current by looking up answers to informal medical consults. She is committed to discipleship and health education as means of living out the Gospel.

Ethan and Elizabeth completed their residencies in Rochester, NY, where Ethan trained in Pediatrics and Elizabeth in Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine. They are thankful for the children God has given them in the past decade of life on three continents. Josiah, Esther, Isaiah, and Ezekiel have enjoyed their own international journeys and continue to bring light and laughter to every day.

Corinne Porter

CambodiaRegistered Nurse

Corinne is a nurse with a desire to glorify God with her career and show the love of Jesus to others through compassionate health care and nursing education. She received a BSN from Cedarville University in 2005 and an MSN from St. John Fisher College in 2014. Her heart for missions came at a young age, while her parents were on staff at Elim Fellowship, a mission sending organization near Rochester, New York. She participated in several short-term mission trips as a teenager. The health needs of the people she met in Ghana led her to pursue nursing as a career. She spent the first 10 years of her nursing career as an oncology nurse, working in inpatient, clinic, and infusion center settings. After completing her master’s degree, uncertain of the next step, Corinne prayed for wisdom. The Lord answered this prayer by calling her to medical missions, assuring her of his constant faithfulness. Corinne spent several weeks at M’Bingo hospital in Cameroon in 2016 and 2017, which sparked an interest in nursing education. She has spent the last several years working as a med-surg nurse and an adjunct nursing instructor. During that time, she visited Cambodia and is planning to serve there as a nurse and a nursing professor.

Steve & Caitlin Twyman

CambodiaMedical Doctor - Mercy Medical Center Hospital

When Steve and Caitlin met in college in 2006 and were placed on the same short-term team to India, they quickly realized that they shared a passion and calling for missions and service. Over the next several years, they had a glimpse of what may come as they both served for short periods of time internationally, though separately, in Europe and East Asia before starting grad school.

In 2016, while working as an immigration attorney, God called Caitlin to partner with The Parks Church to build a local ministry and charitable medical clinic, Hope Clinic of McKinney. A year later, after Steve finished his residency in family medicine, Hope Clinic opened its doors and started sharing the love of Jesus through providing for the medical needs of the locally uninsured.

Thousands of patient encounters later, the Lord has again called them into a new season of ministry as they embark for Cambodia. They will be working at the Mercy Medical Center Hospital and family medicine residency program near the capital city of Phnom Penh. Caitlin and Steve have three children, Benson, who lives in heaven, and Audie and Charlie who will be joining them in their service.
