Global Health and Tropical Medicine Course Overview
*Due to the continually unfolding Covid-19 global pandemic and our commitment to public health and safety, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this live, in-person training for 2020. We are hopeful we can offer it in 2021, and we are also investigating online training options. Please watch our website for updates.
Training in global health and tropical medicine is crucial for serving in international healthcare settings. Healthcare professionals and students – gain the knowledge and skills needed for short or long term international service. This course provides an overview of tropical diseases in a case-based format. In addition, it highlights the provision of quality care through the application of global health guidelines. The sessions cover topics ranging from malnutrition to cultural context and outline approaches to whole-person care in developing communities. The Physical Exam, Suture, and Ultrasound Workshops included in the course promote practical skills for resource-limited settings.
Required resource: Attendees must purchase, prior to the course, VILLAGE MEDICAL MANUAL 7th Ed: A Guide to Health Care in Developing Countries by Mary Vanderkooi, M.D, D.T.M.&H. Instructions on ordering and a discount code will be provided in course confirmation information.
