Ivorians using CHE during COVID-19

Constant Display

Caring in Cote d’Ivoire

Love's constant display in CHE teaching

Constant display of Christ’s love in CI

Constant display is the Christian way. COVID-19 provides an opportunity for the Church to put the love of Christ on constant display. Our acts of service and attitudes bring hope to many people who struggle with fear and illness. We rejoice to hear how Community Health Evangelism (CHE) trainers in Cote d’Ivoire share the Gospel while giving instruction in COVID-19 awareness.

CHE team sharing COVID-19 awareness

CHE team sharing in Abengourou region

In Abengourou, one CHE team has touched 600 families so far. Twenty individuals have chosen to confess Jesus, including two souls from Muslim families. In one setting, the team gave the Gospel and health instruction to a community of 100 drug addicts. Pray for believers in many places who reach out in tangible ways to hurting individuals and communities.

Cookeville Connection

In Cote d’Ivoire, we are accustomed to being the only Americans in a town of over 100,000 people. Our lives are on constant display. However, we did not realize until last week the extent to which this is also true in Cookeville, our hometown in Tennessee. Debbie drove the seven miles into town to work out at the gym and run some errands. The same evening, Verlin received a text message from a local friend and pastor. A lady from his church saw Debbie in town and noticed that one of the rear wheels on our red van wobbled. Because the church member did not have our phone number, she informed her pastor. He passed on the message to us! It turned out to be a loose hubcap, but the rear bearings needed to be replaced too. We were grateful to learn about the problem at home, rather than on a lengthy trip. It was also a humorous reminder that our lives are on constant display, no matter which continent we roam! Constant display is the Christian way.

Prayer and Praise

  • Thank the Lord with us for the lives touched through the COVID-19 outreach in Cote d’Ivoire! Pray for the twenty people who became followers of Christ through this CHE ministry, especially the two former Muslims who likely will face some form of persecution in that setting. Ask the Lord to give the CHE workers continued strength as they work
  • Ivorians continue to ask us to pray for peaceful elections.
  • Debbie strained her ankle last week and continues to have some mobility issues. Pray that the tissue will heal quickly and not cause problems during our upcoming travels.
