The many travels of Caitlin’s recent past

Many of you have asked about my timeline from leaving Chicago until I go to Mexico, so let me fill you in! At the end of June I moved out of my dear house of friends in Chicago. I spent the holiday weekend with family at my parents’ cottage, and then drove right back to Chicago for a little farewell party (so good to say goodbye to some of you!) and then on to Nashville with fellow midwives to complete an ultrasound course! We learned important skills that will help me as I practice in Mexico!

After Nashville, my sisters and I got to have a promised 3-day vacation in downtown Chicago with my niece and nephew! The following weekend was my housemates’ “goodbye weekend” at my parents’ cottage. And just when I thought I was done with all my travels and ready to start unpacking, I ended up in the hospital!! Cheers to my first ER visit (that I can remember) with such splendid timing!

I had been notified by email that my health insurance ended 7/11 on Friday 7/16, so I was planning to call Monday to start the insurance I had previously picked out. But that morning I woke up with severe pain! Long story short, after frantically calling and emailing multiple people while in pain and running a fever of 102 (with my poor housemates driving me home from northern Michigan), the mother always makes the executive decision.  Despite my fears of financial ruin (lol), she took me to the ER. When my health insurer called the next afternoon and said that COBRA would cover me retroactively, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. 🙂 Praise the Lord!!  Also, in case you were wondering, I am fine now, haha.
Now that I am finally at my parents’ home and fully recovered (after a quick trip to Kentucky for a wedding!), I am ready to start unpacking, repacking, and completing ALL the documentation needed during this transition!  Plus, I’m getting a little R&R (rest and relaxation) before I head into the unknown! I have a couple weeks here in Michigan and then a couple weeks on vacation. Then I am off to Colorado for missionary training on September 1st! I am very thankful to be able to enjoy summer with my family, including my new niece and nephew, since I will not be seeing them very much over the next few years!

Financial beginnings

So far I am 38% funded!  Thank you all for your very generous donations!  Some of you have asked when to start your monthly pledges and how to set up electronic bank transfers (to avoid the 3% processing fee).  The answer is you can start now!  I need to pay for my training in one month.  And you can set up the “electronic checks” as an automatic bill pay through your own bank.  Let me know if you have any issues though!

Final greetings

At the end of Philippians, Paul is thanking the church in Philippi for sending him aid.  He refers to their giving as “They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.  And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”  I hope and believe the same for all of you faithful supporters.  No matter if you are giving by your finances or by your prayers, they are all so appreciated and so essential as we reach the unreached together and work to bring about justice and restoration in communities in dire need.  So thank you!!  May our Lord bless you abundantly!
