Session Title: Respiratory Support for the Neonate – According to UNICEF (2018) Globally, 2.6 million children died in the first month of life in 2016 – approximately 7,000 newborn deaths every day – most of which occurred in the first week, with about 1 million dying on the first day and close to 1 million dying within the next six days (UNICEF, 2018). Many of these deaths are related to respiratory distress in the neonate. However, their is one intervention making a notable impact in low resource settings, Bubble CPAP. Bubble CPAP is a simple system to administer and one that provides significant benefit to neonates if properly implemented and overseen. In the morning Dr. Blumhofer will review this simple intervention and the impact it has made on her practice as a missionary pediatrician. In this session she will review the basic principles of bubble CPAP as well as instruct the participant in its use. Learning outcomes: Learn when/where bubble CPAP is an effective intervention, how to assemble a bubble CPAP system, and how to monitor it/adjust it for best patient outcome.

In the Afternoon Dr. Blumhofer will co-present with CHSC founder Greg Seager on WHO/UNICEF Guidelines Child Health in developing countries, including some overview of managing children with severe acute malnutrition.

The Conference was Organized and Facilitated by CRU and CHSC to educate, encourage and engage those who share our passion for medical missions.
