Healthcare professionals and students – gain knowledge and skills for short or long term international service. This course provides an overview of tropical diseases in a case-based format and highlights the provision of quality care through application of global health guidelines. Sessions on topics ranging from malnutrition to cultural context outline approaches to whole-person care in developing communities. Suturing and physical exam workshops promote practical skills for resource-limited settings.
Continuing medical and nursing education credits are pending.
Registration and Logistics
This course is held at CHSC Shalom Retreat and Training Center in Grand Saline, TX, June 25-30, 2018. Course activities are scheduled from 8am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday and 8am to 12:15pm Saturday, with some optional evening activities. When making transportation arrangements, please plan 2 hours driving time between Dallas airports and Shalom Retreat and Training Center. Participants staying at Shalom Retreat and Training Center are encouraged to arrive June 24; full course price includes tuition, room (shared) and board from dinner June 24 through breakfast July 1. A commuter rate is offered which includes lunch daily.
